Wonderful Eyes

One must be observant by nature. To be inspired is to live well. Finding the little things. Simple details. Purity.

Blue Dusk

Not much to say today. Jealous of this photo. It's a good one. The color of dusk, not twilight. Seeds blown by the wind. A steel guitar could play this tune out quite well.
Things are so hurried lately. It makes me appreciate stillness. Nature has become my inoculant.

We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all we love each other

So I feel like having freshly baked madeleines and tea today....and by fresh I do not mean the hard little rocks of imposter tea cookies at Starbucks. The best I've had by far are from Le Patisserie Bordeaux in Vancouver. If only they had a website, I could direct you to the heavenly almond horns and croissants. Actually, I am kind of glad that they don't have a website. In fact, I probably shouldn't even be writing about this place, lest the word get out on the street. Until my next trip to the land of the midnight sun, I suppose I will have to search high and low for a really authentic recipe.
In other news, October brings a month of uncertainty. I really need to make it through this month at school, then I'll be golden. Halloween will be a most excellent celebration of ghoulish delights to end the monotony.

The hillock of the thoughts you think

I wish that some form of autumn would appear here. I am afraid that we will be passed over. No tiny changes are to be found, except by microscopic examination of pigments in leaves. Which at this point, are changing colors due to lack of hydration, rather than chlorophyllic changes. Hot apple cider, tea, and hot chocolate, will just have to wait.
-Other thoughts-
I'd really like to have a day off during the week. My sleeping habits as of late are atrocious, and I would like a day to catch up on things. I always feel so much better having the day off, while most of the rest of world is at work. I would love a day outside, wrapped up by an evening of old movie watching and homemade cookies.

Words and Photos

The heat and humidity have been woven together in a sloppy, course manner. The fabric reminds me of a really ugly curtain that you would find in some old cat lady's house. I wish I could cut it with a knife. As I walked by the remains of Paco this morning (an old pinata from a party), I open my gate and take a pause. The air feels slightly fresher, cooler. Sometimes mother nature is such a tease...I don't want to get my hopes up.

In other news...today I have thought of some words I like, or rather things I like, and would like to take photos of.

today's words:

lampshade
doorknob
crossword
blueberry
street lamp
starfish
sunset
sewing machine
armchair
old records

Now all I need is a holga.

Agua y Cactus

A pool and cacti? What more could a girl want? I can think of lots of things really, but this would definitely make for a very nice afternoon.

Receta por una gran tarde

1/2 c. of endless sunshine (burning hydrogen into helium = nuclear fission)
3,700 gallons of water to fill the pool
a bakers dozen of cacti
2-3 nice people to share this with

South Padre, no es un buen padre

Beautiful beaches, warm gulf waters...one of the fantastic vacation destinations of the world? The South Padre tourism bureau should be shut down at the very least....or perhaps given an award for their cheap, false advertising trickery? I mean, everyone is clear on the reputation of this tiny Texas island community ever since MTV Spring Break infiltrated the scene. Just because Girls Gone Wild visited your town does not mean that I want to take my shirt off too...and no, I do not want a shot of Tequila Rose, thank you very much.

Can anyone think of a better way to ruin nature than to throw-up garbage all over the place? If so, please feel free to comment. Maybe a massive oil spill could have added an additional perk to this gorgeous stretch of land where earth, sky and water all meet.

In all fairness, I do not believe that I set my expectations especially high. I only wish that when I visit a beach that is supposed beautiful, it is.

I would have much rather have been swimming and canoeing at Barton Springs.

August

August means the end of summer. It also
means I grow a year older. Picnics
would be ideal if it wasn't so hot. I really
want a porch swing, but I think that having
a porch to swing under is probably in order first.
A hammock would be equally cool, if not more so.
Olympics, BBQs, beer, going to the lake. Going to
the beach too. Time to enjoy time.

A Nightmare on Research Blvd.

Dear Readers,

Capit0l City Comedy Club Defensive Driving is an anger management class at best. On the date of Saturday August 2nd, Meredith and I had the horrific pleasure of being verbally, and close to physically assaulted by a so called "class instructor. " If god exists, will someone please thank him/her/it for making sure we arrived 5 minutes late to class? It is hard to say when exactly a recovery of some nature will take place. The extreme mistreatment, which I can confidently say I have never seen, nor will I ever see a likeness of again, was and still is indescribable. Therefore, I have decided to summarize the events in a short poem.

Yellow Teeth

a poem by shannon

yellow teeth, a demonstration of your inability to
care
your mind to me, a mangle is
respect does not acquire
yelling, screaming
slamming doors on feet
please summon the police

thank you.

I want to write

I have been telling myself that for months. School has taken over my creative ability, and I find myself reading, writing, and studying things that have no real substance or meaning. Soulless? Highly unlikely. Trying to find out what is important, can be a struggle. I don't even read anymore. I used to enjoy it, still do, but I never seem to try it.
I have been wanting to write this one particular story too, but I am afraid that my vocabulary is poor, and my creativity has long dried up.
My head, filled with knowledge that while essential, is not necessarily important to me, should be guillotined. Perhaps the massive drop in cerebral blood pressure would cause me to lose consciousness for a few minutes, and regain a new level of clarity. My rebirth could be instantaneous if regeneration of my mind could take place.
